Pink and Red – Easter in Nobody’s Child

It’s currently Saturday afternoon, I’ve just spent the morning doing housework, cooking and hanging the laundry out to dry in the glorious sunshine (wife material or what, ey?) I’m now relaxing in the conservatory with the sun beaming in, the breeze drifting in through the open windows and the sound of bees buzzing around the garden, and thought what better time to write this blog post about one of my favourite shoots so far…

Over the Easter bank holiday weekend my boyfriend Dave and I went home (my home, where my family live in Lancashire) to stay with my brother Dan and his girlfriend Danielle in their new flat in Accrington. If you follow me on Instagram (@laurareaney) you may have seen Danielle (@daniellejuliesp), or follow her too, as we always tend to comment on each other’s photos – I’m her no.1 fan, haha. We all had a lovely few days of partying, drinking, eating copious amounts of chocolate eggs and spending time with friends and family, and ended up taking some outfit snaps together along the way!

You’ll probably be able to tell from our blogs and Instagram feeds that Danielle and I have very different personal style. Danielle is the queen of colour and all things pink, while I tend to go for more neutral, earthy tones and rusty oranges. Saying that, we still shop at a lot of the same places, which is why it came as no surprise when we got ready on the Saturday morning and realised we were both wearing dresses from Nobody’s Child! Both dresses also happened to be from their New In collection, which is also probably unsurprising as we’re both as bad as each other when it comes to clothes shopping too (or at least, that’s what our boyfriends tell us!) So basically we ended up accidentally coordinating and thought it was the perfect opportunity to do a little shoot together.

Just like today, it was a lovely sunny day, and on our way out to the pub for drinks with friends we convinced Dave to take a quick detour into town with us and take some photos. We’ve been talking about doing this for so long, it was exciting to finally collab! I’m happy with how the shots turned out too, although there are definitely plenty of outtakes of me having an Angelina Jolie moment with my whole leg flashing out of the wrap dress, and Danielle laughing in-between shooting haha. It was so much fun, I can’t wait to shoot together again.

On to the outfits! Danielle wore this pink mini dress, which has the sweetest print and cross tie details down the side, paired with her white platform Supergas and this gorgeous beaded bucket bag from TK Maxx. I love the girly cut of this dress, it fits Danielle perfectly and looked so cute and summery, whilst keeping it more casual with the trainers.

Now, I’m not usually one for florals to be honest, but this dress was love at first sight. It’s a lovely wrap dress in the perfect shade of red with a hint of orange. Admittedly, their styling with Dr Martens on the website may have also swayed my opinion- I’ll definitely be wearing the dress with my Jadon’s too at some point, but I just loved the black floral print and subtle puffy sleeves. I paired my dress with this little black bag with a round tortoiseshell handle that I picked up in Primark recently (yes, I bought it in tan too), and slipped on my Topshop black chunky mules, which btw I think a) give any outfit that cool 90s vibe, and b) are so damn comfy!! We both went for cat eye sunnies which I think really tied the looks together, and honestly, I was totally feeling it!

We loved the pink and red together (you’ll probably remember seeing this power colour combination trending last year, although I wasn’t brave enough to delve into it at the time). I think the tones compliment each other so well, and it’s not often Danielle and I find colours other than black or white that both of us would wear haha. To say we hadn’t planned to wear NC Spring dresses, I love how we also styled them similarly by opting for chunky shoes to contrast with the feminine prints, and accessorising with the cat eye sunnies and our favourite jewellery. Both outfits really reflect our personal styles, and we felt fab in them together.

I love this time of year. It feels like I’m hopping from one bank holiday weekend to the next at the moment, I’m enjoying one right now whilst writing about Easter. Roll on the next bank hol at the end of the month, when I’ll be back up North again (and might even plan a shoot this time!)

Hope you have a fab weekend,

Laura. xx
